The 18th SAESM is scheduled on March 12-17, 2023.

The SAESM is a well-established undergraduate economics student’s annual meet in South Asia. This event provides an opportunity for students to develop academic papers on various issues of regional importance, present the papers, and learn from each other. The annual meeting is usually a conference followed by a quiz contest and competition for budding economists. A retreat for the participants, generally sightseeing at some of the cultural and natural heritage sites, highlights the SAESM conclave.

NEA has long been associated in hosting SAESM, and had a privilege to organize it on 2020, 2017 and 2012.

The meeting had a discussion on the status of ongoing collaboration between NEA and MOF, possible future collaboration and on the current state of Nepalese economy.

The president of NEA, Prof. Bishambher Pyakuryal, PhD chaired the session. The meeting started with an updates from Dr. Gopal Tiwari, General Secretary of NEA.  The meeting discussed and make necessary decisions on:

  1.  On going collaboration between NEA and Ministry of Finance, Government of Nepal. The president of NEA Prof. Bishambher Pyakuryal, PhD and Vice President Prof. Govinda Nepal, PhD briefed about the progress and shed light on the plans to accomplish the assignment with high quality, rigour and standard.
  2. Co-hosting South Asian Economics Students Meet (SAESM) jointly with Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University. The meeting appointed Mr. Naveen Adhikari, Executive Member, as a coordinator for hosting 18th edition of SAESM.

The association, through its 29th Annual General Meeting, elected the 17-member executive committee under the chairmanship of economist Bishwambher Pyakuryal.

Bhawani Dhungana was elected as senior vice-chairman, Govinda Nepal as vice-chairman, Gopal Tiwari as general secretary, Khom Raj Kharel as secretary, and Shanta Singh as treasurer.

The NEA has been working as an independent think tank to facilitate discussion on the country’s economic issues.
